MATERNITY GRANTS.
A NEW SOUTH WALES SCHEME. (Received 10.20 aan.) SYDNEY, this day. Mr. Fisher is jubilant at the reception accorded to the proposed maternity allowance* by the caucus. The bill will be introduced at an early stage of the session. About £600,000 will be required annually if all mothers apply. The New South Wales Government is simultaneously considering a scheme to invite the co-operation of friendly societies in making grants to mothers before and after birth to cover living expenses.
