MEDICAL CONGRESS.

GE__T GATHERING IN AUCSXAND. Preparations are already being made for the next Australasian Medical Congress,- Tvhich is to be held in Auckland, and the event promises to be a not unworthy successor of the very successful gathering _ Sydney last year. The president is Dr- A. Cballinor Purchas, hon. general "secretary, Dr B. J. Dudley; hon. treasurer, Dr N. McKay Grant; and hon. assistant secretary, Dr C. H- Tew_ey, and these gentlemen have done a large amount of preliminary work. The patrons of tbe congress include tbe Governors of- the various States throughout Australasia, and in addition the names .of several notatble people will appear on the list. It is proposed that the congress shall meet in the new Technical School.in Wellesley-street, which would be eminently suitable, and negotiations anre .no. . in progress with the authorities f6r securing its use. Local secretaries have been appointed, as well as committees for the reception. and entert_n_ent of the vi—tors and the arrangement "of the business. For convenience sake the work has been split up into sections as follows: 1, Medicine; 2, surgery; 3, gynaecology and obstetrics; . anatomy,.physiology and pharmacology; 5, pathology, bacteriology, etc; 6,public health and State'medicine; 7, ophthalmology; 8, psychological medicine and neurology; 9, diseases of children and orthopoedice; 10, naval and military medicine and surgery: 11, dermatology, radiology and medical electricity; 12, laryngology, rhinology and otology. "There were over eight bundred delegates present at the Sydney congress, and though there will not 'be so many at the Auckland gathering, we expect about 500 delegates, chiefly from New Zealand aud Australia, and we have issued invitations to about twenty or thirty world-famous men, some of whom we have reason to hope will be able to accept," said Dr Dudley to a "Star" reporter this morning- when asked for some particulars about the congress. The exhibition at Auckland will attract a large number of visitors, an/I as the congress takes place during the height of the tourist season it is possible that the P. and O. Company will send a special boat across should sufficient inducement offer. A feature of the Sydney congress was the almost lavish hospitality' extended by the Labour Government The oversea visitor s were treated practically as guests of the , St'ai _ and special -visits were arranged to places of interest specially for their benefit. It is to be hoped that tb. authorities in New Zealand will not be behind thg Australian Government in upholding ■the-colonial reputation for h_pitabty, and with so many famous people in Auckland at the same time it would be a unique opportunity of making known to -them some of the famous sights in the Dominion.
