PICTURES FOR THE CITY.
ART SOCIETY'S PURCHASES.
The council of the Auckland Society of Arts has decided to expend a, portion of the fund available for the purchase of pictures in acquiring the following works from this year's exhibition for presentation to the City Art Gallery: "Evening, Mahinapua Creek, HoJdtika" C. Blomfiel'd; "Silverstream, Hutt Valley," C. H. Howarth; "The Crest of the Hill," W. Greene; "Night in the Whare," C. F. Goldie; "Morning After Rain," F. Wright It has also been decided to purchase the lar<»e canvas by Walter Wright, entitled __ Native Gathering," which attracted so much attention at last year's exhibition. __________
