MT. EDEN.
A special meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council, held yesterday evening, was attended by Crs. Hudson (in the chair), Meikle, Potter. Seabrook, Jones, Shackelford. Woolley, Davies, Yates, and Hooton. Office Cadet. —The Council was of opinion that the applications received for the position of office cadet were not such as warranted the salary of 30/ a week. Consequently no appointment was made, and it was decided to call fresh applications for the position at a starting salary of £1 a week, the present applicants to be informed that fresh applications from them would be considered. The Cost of a Crossing.—P. A. McFarlaue stated that the Council's charge of 50/ for putting down a crossing was excessive, and he asked permission to himself put one down, which could be done at 30/. The Council declined the request to have the work done privately, as being against the by-laws, but opinion was divided ou the question of cost, and the matter fvas deferred till next meeting. landscape Road.Mount Roskill Road Board intimated that it was willing to contribute a third of £40 towards the cost of putting Landscape-road in order, ' and to undertake the work. The matter was referred to the Streets Committee. Road Improvement.The Council decided to detail men specially for repair work in each ward, and to take steps to complete the formation in Valley-road and Springstreet.
