MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.
FIRE BRIGADE SUPERINTENDENT .MISSING. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON', this day. Considerable comment ha* been c-aueed by the unexplained absence of the .Superintendent of the Wellington Fire Hrigade i Mr. W. S. U'lJrieli) without leave from the Central Station since Friday last. He was on duty at 10 a.m. on Friday, ■hut since then ha.- not put in an appearance. In the meantime the de-puty-superintendent (Mr. Tait) ha* had full charge of the brigade. No special meeting of the Fire Brigade Committee of the City Culincil ha- yet been called. As a matter of fact, Mr. O'Brien's absence was only known to one or two member-, bin there i- likely to be an urgent meeting 10-;lsiy to consider the position. Mr. O'Brien has been superintendent of the brigade for several veaiv. and experts look upon him a-, absolutely the best lire tighter Wellington ha; over had.
