LAWN TENNIS.

The Eden, Epsom, and West End teams having agreed to drop their fixtures, the only inter-dub matches- on Saturday were in the second grade competition. The Auckland Club retained their unbeaten record by scoring an easy win over West End 11.

In the men's singles, Oliphant started well against Snelling, but when the latter warmed up he showed his superiority. Goldsmith accounted for Fee, but the score, 9—o, hardly represents th* game. Webster and Milnes kept up their good record by defeating £. Bnelling and Macky, respectively, in the singles, and afterwards in the doubles. The surprise of the afternoon, was the defeat of Miss Cooke by Miss Patterson. The West Ender has been playing consistently throughout the season, having been beaten only on one occasion. The rest of the ladies' events proved easy wins for the Auckland Club. Remuera had a clo*" i With Devonport, only just ..e contest by 7 games to o. Their team, however, Was very much weakened by ithe absence of Dr. Abbott and Hickaon. Duthie made fto race of it with Ewen, who played as first man in the absence of Robson. Rainger was in good form against Tonics, Who is still inclined to hit too bard, tie should endeavour to be more accurate, learner, who has been playing in the third grade team, made a good figbt against Best. The latter Went away with a big rush, and at one time-led 6—l, but here the Rehruera boy put in some good Work and brought the More to 6 all. From this on it was even-prigging, Best just managing to get home, ft' ■&■ Mathews, another third grader, scored a good win against Brabant.

Miss Barstow played splendidly against Mrs. Cooper, only losing the match 7 —6. The Shore first ladies were in good form, and never left the result in doubt. Misses Wfcittaker and PhiJeox showed much better fcomhuiation than Misses Kerr Taylor and Crowther in the second ladies* double.

The combined events proved easy wins for the Remuera players. Eden and Epssfes's win from Parnell was very much closer than the score shows. In the men's singles the Eden and Epsom players won three out of the four matches, and likewise in the-doahles. but the games in these were much closer. The second ladies* doubles and both combined were very dbse, the scores being 7 —6 in each instance. The Hawke's Bay team has so far not been chosen, hut that association feels confident of sending a very strong representative team for the Easter tournament.

The selectors of the team to represent Auckland in the mterprOTrneial teams* match at Easter had several probables out at the Eden and Epsom lawns -on Saturday. The form on the whole -was not startling, and it m still an open question as to who will he the seWet-sd four.

The association hold their monthly meeting on Thursday next, and they wffl then fix definitely on which lawns the interprovincial tourney will be held. P. Hsnnn kept up tais winning .-eeord on Saturday by defeating Mowbray in the senri-fmal of the jParnell championshin by three sets to two.

The Parnell Club held an "At Home" on Friday last for the second-class players. Miss M. Payton and Mrs. Mathews secured the prises in the A section, while Misses C. Maeklow and T. Hanna won in the B division.

Owing to ithe bad state of the grass lawns at Rotbrua. the tournament will be held on the asphalt courts.

Appearances point to Shelliinr and Goldsmith belnx in tbe dual, and a ding-dong go Is anticipated. Tbe winner Is to receive a gold medal presented by Mr A. Myers, vice-president of the crab. In the -Ladles' Oaampionsnlp. Miss Cooke has beaten both Miss F. Woodroffe and Miss Mace, the latter ta tbe second round, 6—o. 6—3. Miss Cooke should win the gold medal presented by Mr Myers. The Clob has had a very successful seison. and so far the second grade team holds an unbeaten record, with Devonport still to play. As there are only three lawns, and hence a ranch smaller membership than the other clnbs in this grade possess, this result is all the more satisfactory.
