CHORAL SOCIETY'S PRESENTATION.

During the interval at the Choral Society's performance, last evening, the members and committee gathered in the ante-room for the purpose of farewelling Mr. H. J. Edmiston, the energetic secretary of the society, who, owing to business engagements, has found it necessary to resign the position, which be has held for 25 years so successfully. Mr. C. Hudson (chairman of committee) apologised for the absence of Mr. H. 'Brett, the president of the society, owing to . indisposition, and' read a letter from him. Mr. Brett wrote that he had for over twenty years been associated with Mr. Edmiston in connection with the Choral Society, and no one had had better opportunities of judging of the zealous manner in which Mr, Edmiston had performed the duties of 11011. secretary. He had always taken a deep interest in everything pertaining to the welfare of the society, and had never spared time or money in "the cause of music in Auckland. His retirement would be a great loss to the society, and, personally, the writer felt that it broke another of the links that connected the present members with the founders. Everyone would wish Mr. Edmiston success in the ]arc-e business undertaking which had made it necessary for him to relinquish the office of secretary. Mr. Brett concluded by "trusting that, the members" would continue to enjoy Mr. Edmiston's counsel and assistance, as an active member of the committee, for many years to come. Mr. Hudson with' a few remarks endorsing all that the president had written about the secretary and his relations with the society and music in 'Auckland, presented Mr. Edmiston with a purse of sovereigns as a slight token of the high esteem and respect . in which he is held by the society.
