MEETINGS & ENTERTAINMENTS

ORGAN RECITAL. An organ recital was given: at Sit. Paul's Church last evening by Mr Harold Gregson. There was an excellent attendance, despite the boisterous weather. A programme of ten numbers was gone through, ranging from the heavy, yet digniiieel, "Sonata No. 11," by Rheinberger, to the dainty and everpopular "Humoreske," by I'vorak. Thtaudience greatly enjoyed the musical fare, but, of coarse, owing to the nature of the building there was no applause. However, there was unmistakable approval at Mr Gregson's 'management, of an. organ that possesses few stops. Quite a novel feature at this organist's recitals was the introduction of two vocal numbers. Miss A. Tamil sang "O, Rest in the Lord," from "Elijah," with rare devotional feeling, and that restraint so necessary in excerpts from oratorios. ' Mr W. Ellis fuuig Uddle's well known "Abide With Me," and displayed a rich baritone voice of excellent timbre and range. The programme was as follows: "Allegro Agitato" (.Sonata No. 11 in D minor) (Rheinberger); "Pviere et OffertoiTe" (Dvorak), organ arrangement by E. E. Lemant); "Humoreske" (Op. 101, No. i) (Dvorak) organ arrangemnt by 15. H. Lemare; "OfTertoirc" (Batiste); "SoLvetg's Song" ("Peer Gynt") (Grieg),, organ arrangement, by performer; "Jtnnset Melody" (Vincent); "Marche Nuptinle" (Widor).
