The statement of claims by the Union was an extremely lengthy one, including a full-time statement for various classes of work. The important points of difference from the existing award were not many, the principal claim being that the minimum wage paid to men employed on weekly wages, intituling pressors, be for men's trade £3, and for ladies' trade £3 (}/, instead of £2 10/ for both classes, as at present. It was also asked tliat all work done between 0 a.m. and 8 a.m. be paid at the rate ot time and a quarter. A new preference clause was proposed, requiring every non-unionist engaged to join the union within seven days after receiving from the secretary a request to do so, that the union should be notified within seven days of every non-unionist taken on. and that every non-unionist employed in the trade at the date of coming into operation of the award should become a member of the unio.\ within fourteen days from such date, non-compliance with any of these provisions to constitute a breach of the award.

Mr. Grosvcnor applied for the inclusion as a party of the Auckland Master Tailors' Union, which was granted. The Committee tln'n went into conference to consider the claims.
