FLOODS IN CHINA.
HONGKONG, September 8. Telegrams from the missionary headquarters at Wu-liu", in the province of Ngan-hwei, report that the greatest loss Of life :in the modern history of China has occurred as a result of the torrential rains now falling. Besides the appalling sacrifice of life was the enormous damage to property, of which it is impossible yet to force anything like an accurate estimate. The Yang-tse-Kiang valley was flooded, and the province of Ngan-hwei entirely inundated, all the. crops being destroyed and the houses swept away.
