SHINGLE AND SAND.
A PROBABLE SETTLEMENT. While to-day there was no settlement of the shingle and sand dispute, it was expected that by this afternoon the Government would send word that the boatmen would be allowed to pick up shingle. Private word has come through that permits will be issued to boatmen, and in that case the boats, numbering from 40 to 50, at present lying idle at Auckland, will be released and put into the Band trade. So far the Auckland Coastal Masters' Association has not been advised of the matter.
