TUNNEL AND GOODS SHED. [ (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) J WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister for Railways, the Hon. J. A. Millar, replying to Mr. Myers, • states that the decision not to duplicate the Parnell tunnel at the present June- ( ture was arrived at after mature con- , sideration. A greater volume of business than at present existed can be dealt with in twelve hours each day, or money could be better used for providing facilities in various parts of the district. In reply to Mr. Glover, Mr. Millar says negotiations are in progress for the acquisition of land for increased accommodation for Auckland goods yards, and a commencement will be made with the practical part of the work at an early date. i Mr. Millar states that he is unable to state what amount Parliament will authorise this year for the North Auckland railway, but points out that the ex- j penditure during the last three years has more than doubled. The matter! of increasing or reducing appropriations i this year will receive careful consideration.
