NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTIONS.

LABOUR'S CHANCE THE BETTER. (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, ttiis day. Both sides are confident of winning to nay's by-elections. The campaign is conducted with extreme vigour and considerable bitterness, and it will be a fight to a finish. Labour's chance for one, if not both «eats, is probably the better. The resignations of the Labour memMrs for Mudgee and Liverpool Plains left the Labour Government without a working majority, and on the result of the elections to-day depends the fate of the McGowen-Holman Administration. The candidates are Mr. John Perry (Liberal) and Mr. W. G. Ashford (Labour) at Liverpool Plains, and Mr. Owen Gilbert (Liberal) and Mr. W. F. Dunn (Labour) at Mudgee. At the last election Mr. Dunn polled 3477 votes against 3052 polled by Mr. R. Jones; and in 1907 Mr.^ Jones got 3045 votes, compared with 2417 recorded by Mr. Morrish. the present member for the King Division. At Liverpool Plains on the last appeal the Labour man won with 792 votes to spare; but although there were niOO electors on the roll, only SHCO went to the poll. The Same rolls are being used on this occasion, no time having been allowed for the preparation of supplementary lists. It is generally recognised that if a fair proportion of the 3240 electors who refrained from voting last year can be induced to g 0 to the ballot-box the result may be a complete surprise.
