The evidence led by the police was to the effect that on the evening of the sth inst. a man committed this offence deliberately In view of three young girls in the street. They ran away home and reported the occurrence, with the result that the police were informed The girls identified accused on the street less than a n hour later as the man, though the man in the first instance was wearing a skull cap and had an overcoat over one arm and a parcel under the arm, and the man identified had a hard hat and no overcoat or parcel The police had not since been able to find any overcoat, cap or parcel that might have been disposed of that evening by accused Accused stated that he never wore a skull cap, and did not possess an overcoat, and called a witness who saw him just after the time of the alleged offence, and who stated that he was wearing a hard hat, which he usually wore The Bench was not satisfied with the alibi, and sent accused to gaol for three months, with hard labour. (Before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M) MISCELLANEOUS. Louisa Tierney was fined 10/ for drunkenness. Geo. Anderson, 72 years of age, who had been found sleeping out in the sheds round the wharf, was charged with being an idle and disorderly person. It was explained that he had been in the Costley Home, but was addicted to drink, and the Magistrate adjourned the case meantime. Joseph Noakes, who had been found fighting in Hobson-street last night, was remanded. Archibald McLiver was charged with having stolen a bulldog, value £ 15, the property of Edward L. Hall, but his explanation that the dog would not stay way from his premises was accepted and the case dismissed. Pontus Alboit Poison, master of the scow Waikonini, was fined 5/, and 28/ costs, for not having a proper light on the ship after dark on 23rd June, while she was lying alongside Wilson's breastwork in the harbour.
