Chanvelot, a Parisian journalist, who is visiting Australia, will shortly tour New Zealand. He has already travelled in China, Japan, India, and the Philippines. His Excellency the Governor (Lord Islington) contracted a cold while visiting Christchurch last week, and on his return to Wellington on Saturday had to remain indoors. A requisition is being signed in Huntly requesting Mr. John Powell Bailey (chairman of the Waikato County Council and Huntly Town Board) to stand in ithe Government's interests in the new Kir.lan electorate. ■Visitors to Auckland staying at the Royal Hotel are: Messrs. Mr: John Jackson, secretary of the Greymouth. Wharf Labourers' Union, and president of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Federation, etc., has been appointed Government labour agent at Greymouth vice Mr. H. E. Moston, transferred to Wanganui. The death took place on Monday at Dunedin of Mr. Henry Edward Muir, who has been associated extensively with journalism in the South Island, and was at the time of his death on £he literary staff of the "Otago Daily Times." During the dredging boom the deceased entered into business as a shnrebroker, and was chairman of the Equitable Stock Exchange. In 1900 he was elected a councillor in Dunedin, and a year previous to that he was appointed a Justice of the Peace.
