MR. MASSEY AT PAHIATUA.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, Monday. Mr. W. F. Massey (Leader of the Opposition) addressed a meeting of over 800 people to-night, his speech being on the lines of that delivered in Mastefton on Saturday night. Mr. Massey quoted from a return dated September 30, 1900, showing that at that date 3,000,000 acres of native lands were leased to Europeans. He condemned Maori landlordism just as he did State or pakeha landlordism. The difference between pakeha and Maori landlordism was that the Maoris paid no rates or taxes. The speaker traversed the Mokau land case, and criticised the constitution of the committee to which it was referred Nevertheless he would go on with it if opportunity was given for calling evidence and making that evidence public. The following mot'on was carried by acclamation: —"That this meeting pass a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in the Leader of the Opposition for his able and instructive address and declaration of policy, and is clearly of opinion that the time has arrived when it is to the best interests of the Dominion that the Government should be turned out of office."
