CANADIAN ELECTIONS.
A CAMPAIGN INCIDENT. LAURIER'S NAVY POLICY. (Received 1.30 p.m.) MONTREAL, August 14. Mr. Rudolphs Lemieux, PostmasterGeneral, met Mr. Bourassa (French-Cana-dian leader) at St. Hyacinthe in the first big gathering of the political campaign. Mr. Lemieux accused Mr. Bourassa of being an office-seeker, having sought the Speakership of the Canadian House of Commons while apparently fighting for principle only. A disturbance promptly broke out on the platform, which was partly destroyed. Mr. Bowman admitted the Speakership allegation, but denied the others. He accused Sir Wilfrid Laurier of having betrayed the French Canadians by his navy policy.
