MILITARY TRAINING.
WAXHI PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. A public meeting was held in St. James' Hall last evening by those interested in military training. A number of ladies were present. The Mayor (Mr. J. Newth) presided. The meeting, which was convened by Messrs. 11. T. Gibson and E. N. Davies as a counter move to the action of the Socialistic-anti-mili-tarist movement, proved an enthusiastic one. The Mayor said he was in sympathy with the object of the meeting. There had been a great deal of misrepresentation in connection with military traning, and something should bo done to refute misleading statements, and to see that young mtn understood that it was not only their privilege, but their duty to assist in tha defence of their country. Other similar addresses were also delivered, and it was resolved to; form a league, the objects of which are to closely watch practical administration of the scheme of military training, and to take, such steps as may be necessary to encourage the youth of the Dominion in the defence of their country, also to refute any misleading statements made by opponents to military training. The following were appointed nn executive: President. th«» Mayor; rice> president, Mr. A. H. Bpnge; committee, Messrs. D. Johnson, J. Foster, V. Potter, Major Kenrick. Capt. Moray, Sergeant Green, Messrs. N. Meßobie, 8. 11. Macky, Vuglar, Martin, H. P. Barry; treasurer, Mr. H. T. Gibson; secretary, Mr. E. N. Davies. It was decided to extend the privilege of membership to ladies, and to enrol members at the fee of 1/ per annum. All present became members, and the league promises to develop into a strong association.
