Mr. and Mrs. E W. Alison returned to Auckland yesterday, after a visit to 6ydney. Mr. W. F. Massey, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, delivers a political address at Pahiatua this evening. Professor F. D. Brown leaves by th« Maheno this evening, on a visit to Sydney. He will be accompanied by the Misses Brown. One of Auckland's old identities, Mrs. C. C. Runciman, died at her residence, Braco, Mauku, on August 4th, at the age of 82 years. Mr. T. W» Waitc, district railway manager at Auckland, returned by the Maheno yesterday, after an extended visit to England. Mr. H. H. Rouse, of Wellington, arrived in Auckland yesterday morning, and is leaving for Sydney by the Maheno this afternoon. Messrs. O. L. Bradley (Christc*urch), and W. Butcher (Wellington) arrived by the Main Trunk yesterday, and are staying at the Star Hotel. Mgr. P. J. Stockman, of Los Angeles, California, arrived in Auckland by the Maheno yesterday, and is staying at the Central Hotel for a few days. Captain Maidlow, of the Royal Field Artillery, left England by the Turakina on July 28. to take up service with the New Zealand Defence Department. His Honor Justice Edwards arrived in Auckland by the Main Trunk yesterday morning, and opened the Civil sittings at the Supreme Court this morning.

Oversea visitors who arrived by the Maheno yesterday, and are staving at the Central, are Mr. and Mrs. P. Burrows, Sydney; Mr. A G. Jennings, London; Mr. C. H. Woodcock, Melbourne; and Mr. A. D. Foley, Sydney. Mr. Chas. Schilsky, examiner in music, Trinity College, London, arrived in Auckland yesterday to conduct examinations in New Zealand. Mr. Schilsky is string at the Central Hotel. The Auokland examination commenced this morning.

Mr. Justice Chapman, who will preside at the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, to be opened on Monday next, is expected to arrire in this city on Saturday morning, and will stay at "Glenalvon."' Three Auckland candidates were admitted as solicitors of the Supreme Court of New Zealand by Mr. Justice Edwards in chambers at the Supreme Court this morning, viz.. Leonard Buddie (on the application of Mr. Stewart), George Edwin Lisle Alderton (Mr. Earl) and Sidney James Elliott (Mr. Oliphant).
