AUSTRALASIAN BOWLERS AT HOME.

A CRYSTAL PALACE TOURNEY. (From Our Special Correspondent.) LONDON, July 7. Last Monday a great single-handed amateur bowling tournament, open to the world, was commenced at the Crystal Palace, and attracted a large amount of attention. There is a record entry of 171, the largest in the history of the Palace, and the record amateur entry for London. It represents about forty London clubs, besides Colonial and provincial bowling organisations, and ft has attracted bowlers from Australia and New Zealand, as well as some of this year's English, Scotch, Irish, and Welsh international players. 11l the preliminary round Australia had only one representative plcying, but New Zealand had several, namely, Mr. J. H. Thompson, who secured a walk over, Mr. A. J. Parker, who was beaten, 21 —19, by Mr. R Pearson, of the Crystal Palace Club, and Mr. S. J. Fortescue, who won, 21—8, from C. Wright, of the Penge, 8.C., Mr. F. J. Tasker, who was beaten 21 —12, by W. H. Foster, of the Balaam, 8.C., and Mr J. Colvill, who won, 21—6, from Mr. H. Douglas, of the Mansfield Park Club. The solitary Australian competitor in this round was Mr. C. G. Collins, of Brisbane, who was beaten after a very close fight.by Mr. Curfis, of Sydenham, by 21 to 20. In the first round Mr. Thompson beat J. Powers of Alexandra Palace by 21 to 11, While Mr. Taylor, of New Zealand, who was not called upon to play in the preliminary, disposed of Mr. D. Ross, of the Crystal Palace team, by 21 to 17. Then Mr. Forteßcue knocked out Mr. Davidson, of Bcckenham, by 21 to 15, and Mr. Norries, of Svdney. "walkeS round" BY. Cottrall, of New Maiden, by 23—3.

The first heat in the second round was fatal to Mr. J. H. Thompson, who was severely defeated by Mr. Beach, of Three Banks, 8.C., the scores being 21 to 5 aeainst the New Zealander, and Mr. M. Taylor fell a victim to the powess of the South London bowler, Mr. T. Robertson, who beat him after a close game by 2fl to 18. Another close match saw Mr. Fortescue win from Mr. Linney. of Springfield Park, by 21 to 17, but Mr. J. T). Colvill proved unequal to the task of "removing" the Balham Club crack, Mr. R. Elliott, who won an interesting match by 21 to 18. The third round saw the last of the New Zcalanders, for Mr. J. Fortescue wa.= well beaten by Mr. T. Robertson, o well-known South London bowler, who scored 22 to the New Australasia is thus left with only Mr. Norris to represent it, and he has not at the time of writing played his second round match.
