Mr Fred. Brown, of Ponsorrby-road, leaves for Sydney on Monday on a short business trip. Mr. T. S. Lambert, cr Wellington, has ■been elected a member of the Royal Society of Arts, London. Mr. Lewis Moritzsoa, of Dunedin, who has been on a visit to Auckland, left for the South by the Monowai to-day. Mr J. D. Woern, Swedish Consul at Melbourne, arrived from the South by todav's express, and is staving at the Grand Hotel. The members of the Mines Commission left Auckland yesterday afternoon for the Thames, where further evidence will be taken. Mr J. Stone, of Western Australia, who is touring the Dominion, arrived from the South this morning, and is staying at the Star Hotel. Mr. G. G. Bridges is gazetted RegistrarGeneral of Land for the Dominion, and also District Land Registrar and Registrar of Deeds, Wellington, as from July Ist. Mr. Harry Gilfillan has been advised •by cable that his son, Sir. Trevor Gilfillan, of Christ Church, Oxford, has passed his final B.A. with a second class in honours. At Wellington on Thuwday Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, a barrister of the Inner Temple, London, was admitted by his Honor the Chief Justice a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of 'New Zealand. Mr. J. C Littlejohn, engineer to the Waimea (Nelson) County Council, has (says a Press Association telegram) been appointed engineer to the Nelson City Council. There were eighteen applications for the position. Mr. Justice Edward* arrives in Auckland by the express to-morrow morning to preside at the civil sittings of the Supreme Court, which open on Monday. Mr. Justice Chapman will «onduct the criminal sittings, which open on Monday week. Professor W. T. Mills, of Milwaukee, iwho has been conducting a very successful campaign in the South in the interests of Labour, arrives in Auckland on Friday next, and will deliver the first of a series of lectures on the following Sunday. Mr. J. B. Thomson, a well-known resident of Dunedin (says a Press Association telegram) died of heart failure very suddenly yesterday afternoon. He arrived in New Zealand in 1865, and was Mayor of Dunedin in 1882. He -was 71 yeans of age. Mr. T. M. Wilford, Mayor of Wellington, presided at the meeting of the Wellington City Council on Thursday, this 'being his first appearance since he was taken ill some weeks ago. Mr. Wilford, in reply to the congratulations of Councillors, paid a tribute to the administration of the city affairs curing his illness.
