TEE HIGH COST OF LIVING.
{To the Editor.) Sir,—lt is not suj-prising that we have rejects ia connection'with "our-military system. I, a working man, with several sons and daughters, kno\y that the majority of the workingmen's children do not get sufficient good nourishing fopd 5n childhood. Meat is getting quite a luxury with the workingman; I can only afford one joint a week; that is for Sunday And the way the prices: are • going up I will goon have to do without that. Only yesterday I-was asked 1/9 for ar joint of beef that a short tfme ago -I used->to buy for 6d. Butter, too, is getting beyond the workingman. I hear some say, try dripping. Well,, the price of the material to make dripping is as dear as butter. Bread is too dear, considering the price of flour. Rents have gone up out of all proportion to the class of house. '.If we are to have no rejects the price of living must come so .that the , workingmen's wives can provide proper nourishjing food for themselves and their children." —I am, etc., BORN IN NEW ZEALAND.
