Tie new public hall here will be out o. the builders' hands tn a few days now, and the hall trustees are all busy with working bees, etc., calcimixdng inside of the ball, and fixing things up generally for the opening on the 20th lnst. A meeting of the ladies of the district was held ln Mr. Hewett's barn on Friday last to make arrangements for supper for the dance, and refreshments for performers at the concert on the opening night. Mrs Woods presided over the meeting, and all the ladles present promised donations of refreshments. Mesdames Colbeck. Mellsop, and Muir were appointed a refreshment committee to canvass for further donations and organise supper arrangements. Tickets are selling freely, and if Mr. Bates will favour Manurewa with plenty of snnshine on the 20th, a very successful opening is assured. The reception and dinner to Bishop Crassley at Papakura on the 14th inst. Is arousing considerable interest throughout the parish, and it only now needs moderately fair weather to make it a very successful and notable function. The latest land sale in Manurewa is a section of one acre in Martin Bros.' estate, on South-road, at £250. to Mr. Dalton, builder, who Intends putting a joinery factory thereon. A start has been made nt last with the enlarging of the public school here, Mr. Dalton having secured the contract. BTTCKLAWD. On Tuesday evening the Rev. E. P. Blamires lectured in the Methodist Church to an appreciative audience on "My Trip Round the World." The Boy Si-outs gave a concert on Friday evening in the Public Hall to a fair attendance. Mr Allan presided, and the programme was efficiently sustained by local talent. The Pukekohe East Road Board met on sSaturday, when Mr Allan was re-elected chairman. The clerk (Mr I/nuer) was reappointed clerk, treasurer, and collector. A letter was received from the committee of Manukau County Conference re dividing the county, and ft was unanimously agreed to support the division. Paparata Road Board -wrote asking the Board to assist in urging on the Government the necessity of taking over the Great South Road. The chairman intimated he had written on behalf of the Board that Buckland was agreeable to co-operate. His action was approved. Discussion arose regarding forming, channelling, kerbing, and concreting footpaths with cement in Tuakau, and. on the chairman's motion, it was agreed to secure the services of a surveyor to take the levels and proceed with the "work as funds are available. The tender of Messrs James Bros, for a new wooden bridge to cost £76 at Harrisvllle was accepted, and also the tender of Mr J. W. Stayte to supply and spread 100 yds metal on Wilcox tilling. The chairman gave notice of motion for next meeting to strike a rate of one penny in the £ on all ratable property, such rate to include all special rates. Mt Hartley gave notice he -would move an amendment that the rate be three farthings. The Department of Lands wrote inquirin-g whether the Board claimed a road through Harrisville property. It was agreed to re-ply the Board does not claim the road. Tho monthly meeting of tho Buckland Branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Saturday evening. Mr Dehraey presided, and the delegates to the recent conference gave intresting details, for which they received the thanks of the meeting. An offer to give a wool classing demonstration In August was accepted.
