BOROUGH COUNCILS.

PARTEM,. The Parnell Borough Council met last evening. There were, present: Messrs R. S. Briggs (Mayor),. W. Thomas, C. T. Palmer W. Kay, W. Brown, C. Brook, W. Johns, T Long, VV. Maxwell, and A. G. Scarboro. Gas Mains.—lt was decided to ask the Gas Company to remove the mains in Ceveland-rottU to the side of the road. Tbis step was aeemed necessary as the present mains are over the sewer. Fire Escapes.—Mr Long commented on some of the lire escapes iv the Borough, considering lopes were not sufficient. A motion moved by bim that tbe Council inform the building inspector that ropes are not adequate mean's ot escape was defeated. Hates.—The Mayor gave notice of motion "That the following rates should be levied for 1011-12: General rate of 1/9 iv the £, charitable aid rate of _4d iv the £, and a special rate of Sd In the £, of which only Id will be collected." Coronation Observances.—The Council accepted the invitation of Bishop Crossiey to be present at the Coronation service in St. Mary's Cathedral ou June 22. The City Council gave permission for a bonllre to be lit on the bigbest yiolut of tbe Outer Domain on Coronation Day.
