TO KING GEORGE FROM THE GEORGES.
AN AUCKLAND MEETING. A meeting of the "Georges" was held in the Council Chambers last night. The Maj-or (-Mt: C; J: Parr) presided over a fair artemfence. - -The -Mayor explained itwas proposed that a presentation should be made from the "Georges" of New- Zealand to King George V. on the occasion cf his Coronation. Donations might range from Id to £5- There was little time to spare, for all donations must be sent in toWellington by the 20th inst for cabling Home. He had already collected £3 towards the fund. It was decided to open subscription lists, aud to invite all wouldbe subscribers to send in their donations to the town clerk's office. It was further decided to ask the Board of Education to allow notices to be placed in the schools inviting "Georges" to subscribe something to the fund. The meeting formed itself into a committee to help along the project. MR. FOWLDS' APPEAE (By Tclegrapli.— Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, Friday. Hon. George Fowlds (Minister for Edu-. cation) asks the Press to make a special appeal to the "Georges" of New Zealand to contribute to the King George, fund, promoted to provide from the "Georges" of the Empire a token of their loyalty to the George who will soon be crowned. "Response to a notice in the Press by his Excellency the Governor." states Mr. Fowlds, "amounted up till a week or so ago to a little over £14. This amount looks too paltry to send from New Zealand, and "would give altogether a~false "rmpressloh - of the loyalty of this part of His Majesty's Dominion. The time for receiving contributions has been extended by 14 days, and it has been arranged that the Bank of New Zealand will receive them air-any of its - branches? -and forward the amounts to Wellington. The time has been too short for any organised movement, so-thai-the-suecesaof New Zealand's in-tbe Empire presentation depends -upon -Ihe voluntary action of the throughout the. country."
