THE KNOX BEQUEST.
HOME FOR INCURABLES. - TRUSTEES NOMINATED. - The trustees under the will of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Knox (Messrs. T. Budle, Arch. Clements, and F. D. Clayton) have nomiuated the following gentlemen as a board of trustees for tbe purpose of giving_ effect to -the -intentions of the testatrix in-the matter of the founding and-administering a home for incurables-in Auckland, viz., Messrs. T. Buddie, A~~Clements^ "J. -iL~ Upton, John Reid, Rev. (J. B. Munro, Hon. E. Mitchelson, and the Mayor of Auckland (ex officio). A meeting of the new board will "be -lield" "next" week, "at which it is intended to arrange preliminaries in connection with" the" institution, which" will' probably be in due course incorporated tinder the provisions of the Religious, Charitable and Educational Trust Act It will be remembered that, the late Mts." Knox left about £70,000 for various religious and charitable institutions and organisations, entirely irrespective of the question of sect. After providing tbe specified bequests, the will directed that the residue be devoted to the foundation of a home for incurables. This is now stated to be £40,000. Under the will of the late Miss J. M. Thompson, it is expected that in about five years' time this sum will be largely supplemented. Miss Thompson died in IflOG, and under her will.the residue of -the estate was bequeathed towards the. establishment of a home for "incurables. The amount was estimated at £10,000, but it. was provided that it should be allowed to accumulate for five years, and at the expiration of that -period the income from the accumulated fund should go to the support of a home for incurables, if such an institution had been established by that time.
