PITT STREET CHURCH.
A large congregation attended tbe reopening ceremonies in connection with the Pitt-street Methodist Church last evening, when Mr. James Buddie presided. Tbe choir rendered an anthem, and several hymns were sung during the service. Mr. S. G. Am bury su omitted tbe statement of the financial position in respect to the improvements. The receipts were as follows: Donations and contributions, £ 1638, stained glass windows donated £-210; by sale of old organ £275; taken from shops account £505 15/9, total £2628 15/9, less £. 100 promised by tbe late Mr. R. Hobbs, who died before he could make provision for the payment of t-he sum promised. Disbursements: Repairs outside the church £500 15/9, erecting organ and choir gallery £450; new leaded lights £352 iO/ ; "painting £50; electric motor £69 19/3; electric power. lighting. etc.. £53 6/; cleaning and "staining £40; for new tables, chairs, and seats, £61 10/; new organ, £1170; other sums about £100, total £'2859 1/, leaving £350 to be raised at the opening services. Provided HS-25 was raised the other £25 had been guaranteed. The total promises had been £ IS4S, out of which oniy £73 remained unpaid.
Mr. James Buddie expressed his pleasure at being present, for be was one of those who witnessed the laying of tbe foundation stone of Pitt-street Church. Mr. Buddie then referred feelingly to tbe old workers in connection with Pittstreet who had passed away, and urged upon the younger generation to be ready to take up the work as the old ones dropped out.
Rev. W. A. Hay congratulated those present on behalf of the old Pitt-street members, now in Mt. Eden Church.
Rev. W. Ready, minister of the church, said he thanked God Christianity was a religion of song and music It was not so with Atheism and Paganism. Christianity was not only a religion of music but of giving. The Corinthian Chur-di first gave themselves, and then gave of their substance. Mr. Ready then made an appeal for donations to wipe off the balance remaining.
Rev. A. C. Lawry then congratulated the trustees and members upon the <zoo& work accomplished in the renovation of the church.
An offertory was made, and the Doxology terminated the opening service of the renovated Pitt-street Church.
