(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW ZEALAND OIL. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Mr. J. D. Henry, petroleum expert, cables to Watkins and Fox that the situation in London has been greatly improved with reference to New Zealand oil, and that he is confident of the success in the flotation of the new company. GENERAL GODLEY'S TOUR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. Major-General Godley last evening inspected a parade of Territorials, Battalion Band, and Senior Cadets, and afterwards addressed a meeting. Speaking of the proposal for universal military training, the General explained away many misapprehensions existing, and showed what was proposed. The General made a splendid impression. With Mrs. Godley and Captain Thornton, his staff officer, he left this morning for Paeroa and Waihi. NELSON NEWS. NELSON, this day. A five.-roomed dwelling in Waimea-road, near Bishop Dale, occupied by Mr. F. J. Liley, was destroyed by fire this morning. The building was insured in the Sun Office for £80, and tbe furniture in the Royal Exchange for £150. Bishop Mules, of Nelson, who returned to town this morning, states that the rumour suggesting that be was about to resign was published without authority from the person immediately concerned. Heavy rains during the past few days have caused minor damage in the country to bridges, fords, and fences. GISBORNE, this day. An eight-roomed resilence of Mr. J. B. Poynter, at Te Karaka, was destroyed by fire this morning. The insurance is £400 in the Imperial. The family are absent on a trip to Sydney.
