THE CARPENTERS' UNION.
"NEW BRANCHES FORMED
Important developments in connection with the Auckland branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners have been taking place during the last week or two. The local branch consists of over 700 m.embers, and has become too unwieldly, necessitating a subdivision into five smaller branches. Mr. Jas. Barras (president of the New Zealand Executive Board) has arrived from Wellington, and is giving the installation of tho new bodies his personal supervision. On Thursday a branch was successfully opened at Eden-terrace, last night another live branch was successfully opened at Devonport. On Monday a branch is to be opened at Newmarket, and on Tuesday one at Ponsonbv, while on Wednesday the Auckland Central branch will be reconstituted under the new scheme.
