BIG STRIKE IN CHICAGO.
40,000 WORKMEN IDLE. (Received 12.50 p.m.) CHICAGO, June 8. Forty thousand men have been thrown out of employment by a bricklayers' strike, and contracts totalling ten millions sterling are help up. A settlement of the strike is probable to-day on the basis of a compromise granting some increase in the scale of wages.
