CURIOUS PROCEDURE.
(By Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Mr. H. Friedlander was to-day elected chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board. A request was made lhat Mr. Friedlander should submit himself for re-election at a full meeting of the Board, and Mr. Friedlander promptly promised to do so. The point of this curious procedure lies in the fact that Mr. Friedlander is an opponent of the Sumner Canal scheme, and as fresh elections have been ordered in several districts, it is impossible as yet to say whether the majority.of the members will be for or against the canal.
