EMPLOYMENT ADS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —It seems desirable that attention should be drawn to the continued insertion of these ads. after the positions have ■been filled. Whatever may bo thought of private employers in connection with this practice, it is surely unnecessary for the Harbour Board to indulge in such a callous proceeding. Recently the board advertised for ten carpenters. With others I applied as notified, to be told that the required number had been taken on. The ad. again appeared, so I returned to receive the same answer, and I met a number of others who had 'been similarly refused. Apart from the waste of money involved in attending on these ads. it gives an impression to outsiders that workmen are scarce, whereas it is well-known that any number of capable carpenters can be procured in Auckland at any time. —I am, etc., W. J. SMYTHB.
