BOWING IN AUCKLAND.
■ S v (to the Editor.) Sir,—The rowing races in Auckland are not what they ought to be for such an ideal harbour and country as this is. For one thing, to make rowing more evenly tested, each crew should carry a seven stone boy, and if they wish to take a light boy then take dead weight as is done in Australia where each crew carries the same weight. I have stroked a senior eight-oar for several years and in these everybody carries an eight stone boy to ensure equality. I hope the association will take this matter into consideration at fits next meeting. I have only lately arrived from Australia and should like to see things pick up a little smarter in this big town. The eightoar races are coming off in Australia in May and Auckland ought to get an eightoar race against some of the other New Zealand towns. —I am, etc., iFAIR PLAY.
