BENEATH A HARROW
SETTLER TERRIBLY INJURED.

A shocking accident occurred a& Ohaupo yesterday, by which a settler, Mr. J. .G. Penniket, was ierribly.. mangled. He <was driving four horses in a disc harrow, when one young one' reaTed and pulled him off his seat. He was dragged under the harrow for a couple of hundred yards.- He was found-.qoon after the accident by his son, who, however, could not lr£p the harrows off him. He went away to get his brother, and by pulling a couple of'posts out of the fence they managed to lever the harrows off itheir father. They left him where he was while one of them went for medical assistance. Drs. Brewis and Wilkin arrived as soon as possible from Hamilton, and chloroformed Mr. Penniket in the paddock, and sewed up the wounds.' The injured man was then conveyed' to the Hospital. The blades had inflicted deep wounds on the back, injuring, the. lung cavity; and penetrating the 'base of ithe right lung. An operation was performed ■to-day, and* the patient is progressing favourably.
