THE COMING WOOL SALE.
The approach of the first wool sale of the present season is heralded by big wagons loaded with bales going to the various stores in the city. From all appearance it seems certain that there will be big offerings for the opening sale nest Wednesday—in fact, it is expected to equal, if not to exceed, the quantity sent in for the first sale last year. Already several thousand bales are stored, and further lots are arriving by coastal steamers and trains daily. The quality of the wool that has been seen so far is excellent, and as there is likely to be a good attendance of English, Continental, and American buyers, it is hoped there will be good prices, though it is not anticipated that the high rates which were obtained at the opening sale last season will rule this year, as the recent sales in the South have shown a drop upon the opening rates last season of from Id to 2d per lb. It will be remembered that last year the rates for wool were higher owing to the strike in Australia delaying shipments from that end, and diverting the demand to New Zealand. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The first of the new season's wool sales will be held on Thursday. The catalogue of 8520 bales is the largest submitted at this sale since 1906, and is 1400 bales in excess , of last year's catalogue.
