THE POPE GRATIFIED.
RUPTURE WITH SPAIN AVEKTEB ■ THROUGH KING ALFONSO'S INFLUENCE. EOME, November 7. The Pope is highly gratified at the receipt of an autograph letter from King Alfonso, announcing that his personal efforts to avert a diplomatic rupture between Spain and the Vatican had been successful. The King informed the Pope that the Premier, Signor Canalejas, had agreed that the new religious law, to which the Holy See objected, should not be put into operation until the negotiations for an amendment of the Concordat were concluded, and all questions relating to religious congregations were fully settled. King Alfonso hoped that the negotiations would shortly be resumed, and with this object the Spanish Ambassador would return to Borne before Christmas.
