Mr. R. H. Aibbott, of Auckland, returned by the Wimmera yesterday from a holiday visit to England and the Continent.

Mr. C. J. Pair, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, returned by the Wimmera yesterday from a six weeks' holiday visit to the Blue Mountains.

Mr. C. S. Nixon, Collector of Customs at Wellington, was a passenger by the mail train from the South yesterday, and is stopping at the Royal Hotel. He will remain in Auckland for about a week.

Mr. Oliver Nicholson, who 'has been on a visit to Wellington, arrived toy the Main Trunk train yesterday to attend the funeral of the late Mr. Glenallan McLean. He returns to Wellington fchis evening.

HiK Grace Archbishop Redwood, who has been attending 't>he Eneharistic Congress at Montreal, was to leave Sydney for Wellington on Saturday, in which case lie will reach New Zealand on Wednesday. '

Liieut.-Coloiiel A. Beauchop, C.M.G., Officer Commanding the Wellington District, leaves for England, via Sydney, on Friday next, en route to the Staff College α-t Camberley, to which he will be attached for the staff graduated course. Before he leaves he will be entertained by the members of his old contingents—the fourth and seventh.

Mr. W. Cammell, who has completed •twenty-six years' service in the works and fittings departments of the Auckland Gas Company, was on Friday farewelled ■by the employees. Mr. J. J. Rogers, in presenting him with a set of tradesmen's tools on behalf of the staff, expressed the esteem in which Mr. Oammell was held, and wished .him success in the business which, he is starting on his own account.

Mr. T. W. Kirk, Director of the Orchards, Gardens, and Apiaries Division of the Department of Agriculture, left Wellington on Friday evening by the Moana for Sydney, on a visit for the benefit of hie health. During his stay in New South Wales he will inquire into •the defects of the fruit inspection system of tihat State, in view of recent importations to the Dominion of fruit infested with the dreaded orchard fly.
