CAPSIZE IN THE HARBOUR.

A MAN MISSING. /■ ' An unknown man, a visitor from Wellington, hired a dinghy on Saturday, afternoon from Mi. Lockwood, of Cheltenham beach, saying that, he was going for a cruise in the Rangitoto Channel. The sea at the time was rather ©hoppy, and .the man was advised not to go out far. He cast off and. commenced rowing towards Rangifcoto. Mr. Lockwood, •who had some fears for ihis safety, watched him for,some two hours, after: which he lost sight ol the man. Yesterday morning the dinghy was found washed up at Narrow Neck, in a ■badly-damaged state, 'but without any, sign of the man. Both oars and rowlocks were missing, (but the , anchor and line ■were, found in tlie bow, fche inference being that the iboat capsized while being sculled. The missing man, who applied to Mr. Lockwood on Wednesday last to have a iboat reserved, is described as being about 30 years of age, sft 10in in height, with a dark moustache and complexion. He was wearing a dark-coloured suit and carried a brown fishing t>ag. The police are now engaged in searching the coast near where the iboat was found, as it is considered that the body is likely to Come ashore dn that neighbounhood.
