WHARF LABOURER KILLED.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. An inquest was held yesterday afternoon on the body of John Patrick Baillie, aged 56 years, who was killed instantly while loading cargo on the steamer Ruahine. Baillie was a permanent employee of the N.Z. Shipping Company. He was working at the ropes of a capstan, controlled by hydraulic power, when he became entangled in the ropes, and the machinery being set in motion, the unfortunate man was violently whirled round the capstan for several minutes until pressure could be turned off. The body was terribly mangled. A verdict of accidental death was returned. The deceased leaves a widow and grown up family of four.
