ELLERSLIE TOWN BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Ellerslie Town P.oard, held Last evening, was attended by (Messrs G. Wilkinson irhairnianj, Somerneld, Hill and l"eck. Turf Reurova).—lt -was reported that the Board had agreed to supply all the surplus turf aud soil from Albert. -Morrin and Amystreets to the Auckland 'Racing Clnb at T>) a load, condition-ally upon -tile club N*aring the cost of ploughing the turf from -the Al-bert-street works. Improvements. -It was decided to carry out a number of small improvement works in the district, including the deepening of ■the wa'tertable in Morrinstreet, lowering the footpath in Amy-street, opposite Mr ■Salver's property, to tar and sand the footway in front of the shops of Messrs Quinlan and lx-ach. ami effect, repairs to the footway opposite Mrs McDonald's place. The idea was approved and adopted by the members. Sanitary Inspection.- A letter was received from the Chief Hearth Otlicer (Dr. Valinrtine) in regard -to a scheme for placing the sanitary work of local bodies in 'the hands of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Department, by appointing an officer to supervise ■this work f.>r the local bodies in the area of the 'Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Itt .the discussion that followed, .the opinion was expressed that the suggested si-home, in taking away the powers and dutiestfof the local authorities and in placing more 'work on the Hospital Boards, was a step in the wrong direction. On the motion of Mr Hill, seconded by Mr Somertiold, the .Board passed a resolution expressing disapproval of the proposal, and the chairman 'was appointed to act as the Board's ileleistate at any conference that may be called Ito consider this question.
