HUNTL.Y, Wednesday. A gas mill at T.iuplri, owned by- Mr Laud, farmer, of Taupiri, and leased by Mr Baigent, was burned to the ground on Tuesday. A hirse quantity erf fibre was also destroyed. Heavy rain fell on Labour Day up till noon, when the weather cleared. The Good Templar water excursion, which had been arranged, was put -ntf owing to the wet morning. An adjournment was made to the Masonic H-all, where games, etc., were engaged iv up till sis. o'clock in the evening. A plentiful supply of refreshments were handed round at intervals. The opening for the season of the Huntly Tennis conrts was postponed until Saturday, the Inth October,' when (weather permitting) Miss Ralph will declare the courts open.. The Huntly Rod aud Gnn Club held a clay pigeon shooting handicap competition yesterday afternoon, in a paddock adjacent to the tennis courts, for a gold medal presented by Mr Page Wood, Hamilton. Some excellent shooting by some 25 contestants resulted in Mr ita-tt Kelcher, of Ohjnewai. proving the winner, with 17 birds out of 20. The conditions- were 20 birds each, two shots at each bird.
