SOUTHERN NEWS.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INFECTIOUS DISEASES. XEW PLYMOUTH, this day. Mr. Fitzherbert, S.M., gave reserved judgment this morning in cases brought by the Health Department against a Rahotu settler named Chapman for failing to notify scarlet fever cases in his house. Four charges were dismissed at the hearing last week, and the magistrate now dismissed the remaining two on the ground that defendant had notified the occurrence of the disease, though not exactly in the terms of the Act. GETTING IN EARLY. JIASTEB.TON, this day. Sykes, secretary of the Masterton A. and P. Association, will be selected by the Opposition.
