SUICIDE IN WAIHI.
TERRITORIAL SHOOTS HIM. SELF. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.}. W'ATHT" "this day. A young man named Roland Alfred Palmer, the adopted son of Theodore Doyle, sign-painter, shot himself dead this morning in his hut. Deceased was employed by Mr. Middleton, carrier," and was a member of the Ohinemuri Rifles. He was at drill last evening till 10 p.m., and was found at 9.30 o'clock this morning lying dead in his hut, fully dressed in his uniform, with his rifle leanin<* against the bed. * " Deceased had evidently discharged the rifle by placing the handle of a broom through the trigger-guard, and pressing the trigger. A bullet wound was found in the side of his head. The rifle contained an exploded shell. The police found a set of verses written, by deceased lying on an open volume of Shakespeare. The verses were headed, "An apology for self-destruction." They were of a rambling nabure, and disclosed a depressed state of mind, and hint at some internal malady, but seem to consist chiefly of quotations from Shakespeare. A post mortem examination has ibeen ordered.
