KITCHENER'S GRIEVANCE. DID HE EXPECT VICEROYSHXP? LONDON, August 22. Political circles are just now discussing a grievance that Lord Kitchener is said to have. If there is anything in the rumours that are going about the hero of Khartoum is a much-disappointed man. According to these reports King Edward used his influence to secure the appointment of Lord Kitchener to the Governor-Generalship of India. The late King whs supported in. the effort by Mr. Hnldane, (Secretary for War, but, so the story goes, Lord Morley, Secretory for India, declined to entertain Kitchener's nomination, and the appointment of a military Viceroy was therefore abr-udoncd.
