The Rev. E. A. and Mrs Kirwood are leaving this evening 'by the Maheno for Sydney. Dr. and Mrs. Savage returned from their visit to Sydney by the Maheno yesterday, accompanied by Miss Cooper. I Mr. and Mrs. W, H. Smith, visitors from Southport, England, were arrivals by the Maheno yesterday, and are stopping at the Royal Hotel. Mr. C. H. Poole, M.P. for Auckland West, is leaving 'by the mail train this evening on his return to Parliament, after a brief visit 'to Auckland. Among the arrivals by the Maheno yesterday who are staying at the Star Hotel are Messrs. C. B. Row-sell, R. Rowsell, P. D. Gardiner, and Jas. Martin, all of Sydney. , Mr. Cecil F. Levra, for several years Government Valuer in the Gisborne dis trict, died on Saturday afternoon aftci a few days' illness from bronchitis supervening on influenza.— (Press Association.) Mr. P. M. "Mr. James Rowan,-' says the " Telegraph," " told the doctor at the hospital that his own medical adviser had told him that the only chance of recovery was to cut a large part of his head, nearly all the upper jaw, part of ' the lower jaw, and the whole of the ear. At the hospital, however, the radium i ■ treatment, which is perfectly painless, was adopted. After 127 hours of exposure to radium rays, the man tvas completely cured', and tbere is not now a single mark on his face." The Key. G«o. Walters, of the Sydney Unitarian Church, arrived iby the Maheno yesterday, and will remain as the guest of the Auckland Unitarian Church until •the end of September. Mr. Walters ia well-known as an eminent preacher and lecturer, and has come over on the invitation of the Auckland Church to assist in carrying on the work, pending the arrival of Rev. Win. Jellie'3 successor from England. Mr. Walters has occupied the Unitarian pulpit in Sydney for upwards of 21 years, and was present and took part in the opening ceremonies of the Auckland Church some ten years ago. j Mr. Walters will occupy the Unitarian pulpit here for the month of September, and a number of lectures will also be announced. His friends are looking for-' ward with much interest and pleasure to "this visit.
