LATE RACING.

The ex-New Zealand steeplechase horse which a few years ago Tvould have brought nearly four figures, was sold by auction to-day for 26gs. THE TROTTING CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, this day! At the Jvew Zealand Trotting Conference to-day It was decided to alter the interpretation of rule I. to read: "Performance means 'start in any race or advertised public e:x±ibition of speed against time ' " Itegaraing toUhs and voting papers, the conference resolved to add the following words to the rule: "Any club fallliig or neglecting to vote in accordance with the rule may be fined by the conference a sum not exceeding five guineas." The conference resolved that a club may at any time, where the number of acceptances for any harness race exceeds 20, decide -to run the race- in heats, and that whenever it is necessary to rtm a race in heats the first three iii each iheat shall be qualified to start in the final.
