AMERICAN UNIVERSITY V. WELLINGTON.
6 THE VISITORS BADLY BEATEN.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. About 8000 people witnessed the first match of the American University's team, that against Wellington, which resulted very much as expected The the rough, but were obviously lacking in most of the finer points of the game. Wellington were never pressed, and on no occasion did the visitors look like scoring. The Wellington team, which was fully representative, gave a fine exhibition of the game, from which the visitors should learn a good deal. The game went wholly in favour of Wellington, and in the firet spell 8 points were put up against the visitors, but it might easily have been as mkny more. Avery and Irvine scored tries, Roberts converting one. Brown, the the American full-back, played a meritorious game throughout. The second spell opened with an American kick, which came within a few yards of the line, which was the nearest thing to a score for the visitors they had during the game. Cerf, the captain, headed a rush, which showed some fine driboling by the American forwards, who at this stage passed with more freedom and success. Each man endeavoured to make ground tts he went, and there was no wasteful passing from side to side of the field. The visitors tired rapidly, and Wellington, playing brilliantly, added fourteen points, Pyle, Perry, Kinvig and Roberts each scoring tries, the last of 1 which Ryan converted, leaving the 1 score — Wellington 22 American 0 Mr. J. Francis was referee. N.S.W. DEFEATS QUEENSLAND. BRISBANE, Saturday. At Rugby football New South Wales (21) '■ defeated Queensland (8). I
