SECONDARY SCHOOLS MATCHES.

GRAMMAR SCHOOL V. KING'S COLLEGE. The match between Grammar School and King's College created a lot of interest, and the barracking was very pronounced, partisans of both sides, armed with megaphones and other instruments of torture, making an intolerable row, to their own delight, but to the annoyance of numbers of other patrons of the stand. Cri-iLuiui_ri iSehool played with the wind behind them in the first spell, and after some even play about the half-way, the blues set up a hot attack, and, after several passing runs, which were spoilt by faulty handling, the blues working the silly side of the scrum, Sellars got over under the posts. Geddes converted. Grammar, 5; King's College, 0. Grammar were soon on the attack again, but their handling was not first-class, and a couple of trys were iost, King's eventually being forced by a shot at goal from a mark, which looked from the Press stand to be a goal, and shortly after Dawson got over, but was called back for a breach. Grammar School attacked consistently, and King's were forced twice in quick succession. King's eventually rallied, and a forward rnsh put the blues on the defensive, but it was only temporary, for Grammar soon cleared their lines. King's came back, and, with a fast forward rush, ran over the blues' backs, and Westbury and Dickenson joining in, the last-named picked up on the line and scorer)- The kick was a failure. Grammar, 5; King's, 3. Grammar livened up, and at 1 tacked hotly, Geddes scoring from a passing run. Tie took the kick and converted. Grammar, 10; King's, 3, and the bell rang shortly for half-time. With the wind behind them, King's started very fast, but were over-anxious, and Grammar were assisted by a couple of free kicks, which kept play about the centre. King's worked down gradually, and had Grammar busy defending. The blues' defence was solid, and though they had an I anxious time, they beat back, and Ohlson, getting possession, kicked down the field, and the bines following up fast Paora passed to Dawson, who got over, but was called back for offside. The kick sent play down to the Grammar line, and the blues had another anxious time, but Paora and Ohlson saved, and the danger was averted. A freekick assisted Grammar, and, Hodgson falling to return, King's were in trouble, and from a scrum Ohlson sent it out to his backs, and MaCManemin dribbling it past King's backs, took it over the line, and Dufaur fell on it and scored. Geddes' kick went wide, Grammar, 13; King's, 3. Grammar were now beating King's badly, and were attacking strjngly, when Peach intercepted a pass and removed the danger, play ending at the centre. Grammar returned to the attack, but a mark stopped progress, and Gramma were eventually forced by a long kick by Dickenson from his own 25. King's had a turn at attack, but they were unable to penetrate the defence, and the blues' forwards breaking, sent it out to the backs, •and Blundell, outpacing the King's defence, registered th fourth try. Geddes failed at goal. Grammar, 16; King's, 3. Play was fairly even till call of time, the bell ringing -without further score. PUBLIC SCHOOL MATCHES. Newton East defeated Ponsonby by three to nil.
