THE HAMILTON* GASWORKS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondeuu: HAMILTON. Friday. A special meeting of tho Borough ! Council ivas held last night to consider Mr. Suggett's report on the gasworks. He estimated the amount necessary to make the works effective and to bring them up to date at £0300. To this has to be added legal expenses arising out of the recent action (£2500). It was decided to take steps to raise a loan of £35.000, the balance required (il2.000) having already been sanctioned by the •ratepayers. The ivorks will be pledged as security, together with the security of a special rate. The Mayor, stated that he did not think the special ra,tc would have to be collected, as the profits on the works for 1909 showed virtually o per cent on £50.000. Ngaruawahia ratepayers considered the best method of lighting the township at a public meeting held last night. ; Harnessing Firewood Creek to generate ! electricity was suggested and appeared to find favour. It was decided to ask the Town Board to got expert advice as to the best method of lighting the town ! and endeavour to obtain the services of Idr. Wiley, engineer of the Auckland City Council.
