EDUCATION BOARDS.
COXFKRRyCE EC WELLINGTON. {By Telegraph.—Press Association.) FJEXLDIXG,. Friday. In connection with the Conference of delegates of Education Boards which is to .open.in Wellington on. August 23. the chairman of the Wanganui Board is issuing to Boards throughout the Dominion a circular bearing upon matters to be dealt with by the Conference.
The Wa-nganui Board, at -whose suggestion the Conference is being held, is incorporating in its chairman's circular the following list of subjects for the Conference:—The relations existing between the Boards and the Department; control of secondary education; ' secondary department in district high schools to be replaced by suitable courses at technical schools; -revision of boundaries of education districts iv the direction of increasing - the area of the- smaller districts: compulsory technical education : scholarships for agriculture and domestic science; agricultural education, woodwork and cookery in country schools; maintenance allowance for technical schools; pupils with competency certificates to be allowed to attend practical courses as free place pupils; Government subsidies for voluntary contributions towards all primary school committees' funds; medical inspection of school children; universal grading, clarification atid transfer of teachers; increased staffing; salaries of secondary assistants; no deduction to be made from salaries of pupil-teachers , attending the training colleges who do i relieving work in the holidays; building I and maintenance grants; travelling expenses of teachers attending classes, and i technical instructors in country districts Ito be paid "by road as well as by rail; reinstatement of buildings destroyed by tire; purchase of school I sites and additions thereto; grants for new school? and additions to be based on the mean between the average roll and the average attendance: installation of sewpragr-: teachers' residence; grants for Boards' offices and maintenance; Boards to specify individual schools where indi- | viduai examination of pupils is not re- | quired; reduction of school hour? for Bible instruction: free school books: boy scouts to supersede cadets at primary schools.
